• Lassaigne's test uses molten sodium — highly reactive with water; add the fusion tube to water behind a screen, away from the face.
• Aniline & phenol are toxic/corrosive and skin-absorbed; benzaldehyde and acetone are volatile and flammable.
• Carbylamine test produces a foul, toxic isocyanide — fume cupboard only; destroy residue with acid.
• dil. HCl, NaOH, conc. reagents and bromine water are corrosive; handle with gloves/goggles.
• Smell cautiously by wafting; never taste. Keep flammable liquids away from flames; collect organic waste separately.
