Solubility & Temperature

Solubility: Mass of solute (g) that dissolves in 100g of solvent at a given temperature.
Endothermic dissolution: Solubility increases with temperature (e.g., KNO₃).
Slight effect: Some salts show little change (e.g., NaCl).

Key Concepts

  • • Saturated solution = maximum solute dissolved at given temp
  • • Solubility curve = plot of solubility vs temperature
  • • Supersaturation occurs when cooling a saturated solution slowly
Did you know? KNO₃ solubility increases from ~14g at 0°C to ~245g at 100°C — a 17× increase!

🎯 Objective
