Strong Acids
Completely ionize in water (α ≈ 1)

Weak Acids
Partially ionize in water (α << 1)
CH₃COOH ⇌ H⁺ + CH₃COO⁻
pH Formula
pH = -log[H⁺]
⚠️ Safety
  • HCl and H₂SO₄ are corrosive — even dilute solutions irritate skin and eyes; wear goggles.
  • Never dilute acid by adding water to it — add acid to water, slowly, as it is exothermic.
  • Never taste or pipette by mouth; use a dropper/pH meter.
  • Rinse any splashes with plenty of water and inform your teacher.
