Glass Working Techniques

1. Cutting Glass: Score with triangular file โ†’ Apply pressure to snap cleanly โ†’ Fire-polish sharp edges
2. Bending Tubes: Heat uniformly in flame โ†’ Rotate continuously โ†’ Remove and bend when plastic
3. Drawing Jets: Heat center until plastic โ†’ Pull ends apart smoothly โ†’ Creates fine capillary tip
4. Boring Corks: Lubricate borer โ†’ Rotate from narrow end โ†’ Push through for airtight hole

Safety Guidelines

  • โš  Always fire-polish cut glass edges to prevent injuries
  • ๐Ÿ’ก Hot glass looks same as cold - wait 2+ mins before handling
  • ๐Ÿ”ฅ Use luminous flame (yellow) for visibility, non-luminous for heating
Did you know? Borosilicate glass (Pyrex) can withstand temperature changes of 150ยฐC, while regular soda-lime glass can only handle 50ยฐC!

๐ŸŽฏ Objectives

Master glassware manipulation. Fire-polishing is critical after cutting to ensure safe, smooth edges.

๐Ÿงช Technique Guide

Choose a module from the panel to initialize simulation.

Safety Note:

Always fire-polish freshly cut glass. Sharp edges can cause injury and compromise airtight seals.
  • Uniform rotation is key.
  • Lubricate borer for smooth entry.
  • Wait for glass to cool.
