Procedure
💡 All reactions are conducted under standard laboratory conditions.
⚠️ Safety
- Adding water to quicklime (CaO) is strongly exothermic — it spits and steams; add water slowly and keep your face away.
- Heating ferrous sulphate releases choking SO₂ / SO₃ gases — work in a fume cupboard and point the tube mouth away from everyone.
- Barium chloride and its solutions are toxic if swallowed; wash hands after use and collect the barium waste separately.
- Handle hot apparatus with a holder; wear goggles for every reaction.
- Never taste or directly sniff the chemicals — waft gases gently if a smell is needed.
